Saving the Buck: Facial Brush

I've been curious about the Clarisonic Mia for a long time now, but I'm very hesitant to jump on this bandwagon mainly because of the price. I'm not convinced about spending more than $150 for something that might not work for me. Furthermore, it's not an electronic that has a sure outcome, unlike the epilator. And so I looked for alternatives.

The Clarisonic Mia claims to:
- Removes makeup six times better than traditional methods
- Clears pores and reduces the appearance of pore size
- Cleanses so thoroughly that skincare products absorb better
- Creates noticeably healthier looking skin

I found the Sephora Face Complexion Brush ($5 USD, $7 CAD)
Its purpose is for cleansing the face and neck by gently exfoliating dead skin cells, leaving face fresh, clean, and soft. It gently massages and invigorates skin.

Sounds like a much better deal to me. I also found a very similar brush by Quo (the cosmetic line by Shopper Drug Mart) selling for $7 CAD also. I figured I'll be able to save $143+ just by moving my arm instead of using an electronic device for exfoliating. I was sold by the fact that I can achieve similar, if not the same result just with a fraction of the price. Before I actually went to Sephora to purchase the brush, I hit up The Body Shop to browse around and I found the following.

The Body Shop Round Handle Facial Brush ($3 CAD)
It serves to get a more radiant complexion with a soft-bristle face brush that gently loosens dead skin cells and impurities while stimulating circulation.

I tried it tonight with my Philosophy Purity Cleanser and they work perfectly together. I think the brush works well with cleansers that have similar texture as the Purity cleanser such as the Cetaphil cleanser. My skin definitely feels softer and cleaner after usage. I recommend checking this out at $3 a piece at The Body Shop! For a few more dollars, you can get the Sephora one with a handle. For me, not having a handle doesn't bug me that much. I just couldn't persuade myself to spend another $4 just for a handle lol. (Yes I'm frugal like that -_-)

By the way, remember to check out my giveaway for a set of Hello Kitty eyeliners if you haven't already :)

wah this looks awesome! I also have the same opinion as you about the clarisonic brush, I also heard some bad reviews about it. If it costs 150$ it better make my skin glow and baby butt soft! The body shop one is so pretty and such a great deal, I'll hopefully be picking up one too! =D

I've always wanted to try the brush at sephora but never if it really worked or not. Do you know if it's better to do this daily or just a few times a week?

@suki pooki: Yup it's definitely a great deal! I know that The Body Shop is also having a Buy 2 Get 1 Free for accessories. I didn't take the deal though cause every other cosmetic accessory costs a lot more than $3 lol and I didn't think I would need 3 of the same brushes.

@Diana: I read somewhere that it's good to do this about 2 to 3 times a week. Just like how you would only exfoliate a couple of times a week :)

Maybe I'm too desperate for nice skin but I recently got the Mia. But not for the full price. It was discounted considerably! But still quite expensive. I'm hoping it'll give me good results =X I've tried the Body Shop's brush before and it made my skin skin felt very..raw (if that makes sense..) even when I used it lightly. But when I got use to it my skin did feel cleaner than if I were to use my hands.

Thats good to know about the Body Shop one. I might actually do to buy it today since there is one five mins from where I live :P Clarisonic is wayy too pricey. Or am I just being too cheap? My friend also told me that Shiseido has a similar one like Sephora's. It's white but costs $25? Lets stick with the Body Shop one for now :P

I have the Sephora facial brush, but I didn't like how scratchy it felt against my skin, so I got the Mia. Olay came out with something similar to the Clarisonic. It's called the ProX, and is only $25 on Amazon. A lot of reviewers have rated it as comparable to the Clarisonic - hope this helps :)
