Letting things go

Everyone knows that makeup do expire eventually, but how many of us actually throw them out regularly? I for sure don't... and I'm not sure why. One thing I know is that it takes FOREVER for me to finish using a product because I don't put on makeup on a daily basis. Throwing out unfinished makeup just feels like throwing money away. And just like anything else that we own, it triggers a part of our memory. The time and location you bought that eye shadow... The person who was beside when you bought it... That special event you went to with that particular lip gloss on... Everything is hard to let go, but letting go will make us feel lighter. Going forward, there'll be less burden.

Some have been in my drawer for literally years. I don't touch them anymore and would not dare to put any of it on my face.
If you're scared, let it go.
Some broke and leaked. It's impossible to take it anywhere.
If it's incapable to function, let it go.
Some are finished. Don't keep it for the packaging.
If there's nothing left, let it go.
And some, just plainly suck.
If it sucks, let it go.

The cap of this elf gloss broke off... not sure if you can see the crack on the cap. It makes everything else sticky :S

Making space for the new. I will be better.

Other than throwing things away, I also cleaned my brushes...... for the first time (how embarrassing) I'm one of the laziest people you can meet. I have a high tolerance for dirty brushes, but lately I find myself being scared to use them. Now THAT'S when you know for sure there's a problem.

Dirty and filthy

Shampoo, bowl, napkins

It was hard work, and it's definitely worth it! Looking forward to doing this more often in the future!

LOL It is hard to let products go but it's better if they're old and you never use them. Good job in purging!

Yeah its kind of hard to let go off some old products right? I have a few old eye shadows for like 5 years and its still useable.. but im not scared to use them! lol.... Unlike lipgloss and lipstick.. I think I would be very scared to re-use if it was like 3 years old.... Im glad you did this post, because just 3 days ago.... I went through my lipgloss drawers and they were just a year old but it looked and smelt funny so I chucked them in the bin :) halllleluyahhhhh :D great post hun!

OMG the last couple weeks I have been extremely busy with school so I haven't had the chance to wash my brushes but guess what! I've been applying eyeshadow with my finger and it works great LOL!!! (only works if you're not keen on precision). Best part is, this "brush" will always been clean when I need it to be XDD

i have trouble letting go of my products as well. Some i only used once or twice than i feel it's such a waste to just throw it away...then i end up keeping it for another few years, and some because the packaging is just too cute lol.

lol i find it hard to throw things out because i honestly don't remember when i opened them. i found this pretty pink mac lip gloss in my makeup area one day and it looks like it never has been opened or used so i opened it and i smelled it...and it smelled like mold >< so gross, i shouldn't smell things anymore ><
cleaning brushes is a pain! i try to do it every week but i often "forget" :3

For me, the hardest part about throwing away cosmetics is feeling like I'm throwing my money away! Sometimes it takes a while, but I eventually come to the realization that it sucks and I don't want to/shouldn't use it anyway, so I might as well toss it. As for cleaning my brushes, I am also very lazy, but ever since I discovered a new method I have gotten a lot better and now clean my brushes every 2-3 weeks. I use Michelle Phan's method using EV Olive Oil, anti-biacterial dish soap, and the brushguard. It's super fast and efficient. Check out her video here if you want. :)

I have no problems letting go of makeup, I make sure I use all that I have and if I won't really use a product as often as the others, I give them to my sisters.:D

I wash my brushes every week and for someone with dirty brushes, your face is flawless!:D

Oh I know how you feel when throwing away items you don't use, although once I start I can't stop [0.o] That's why I've been keeping myself away from makeup and focus more on skincare, at least I know I'll be using those lol

Btw, I'm a new follower =]

I totally agree! It's so hard to let go..I have a lot of makeup that I've only used once and they've been with me for over a year now. LOL Also, I'm extremely lazy with my brush cleaning...must do it now that exams are over!

I like to rim my brushes around the sink too, LOL! My brother gets so mad because he can't do anything until I carefully move every single one...

Haha I hoard all my makeup products - I have some lip glosses from years ago that I never threw out. But I don't use them, cuz that's kinda gross and unhygienic ><

Omg this reminds me of all the old makeup I have stashed up in my makeup box that I need to throw out. I have a tenancy to just keep things "just because" lol I really need to throw stuff out T_T Good job on cleaning all your brushes! I clean my brushes daily so I don't have to do super thorough cleaning so often =P

This post reminds me of all the makeup that I've been keeping for so long that I didn't use for a very long time. I really need to dig those out one day. Thanks for the reminder lol but like your blog! can't wait for more post like this in the future :)
