Artsy Night at Nuit Blanche

Hi all, I spent last night walking around Toronto down Yonge St and Bloor St at the Nuit Blanche event. To be honest, I enjoyed the crowded atmosphere the most rather than the art itself. I didn't really understand a lot of the art there :S Since it's a free event, I glady spent more money than usual buying food to warm my stomache from the cold night.

First off, I stopped for some tiny donuts ($5 for a dozen). I chose mine with cinamon flavour, very tasty and filling.

We wanted to try the poutine from the Poutine Machine cause of the name. $5 for a medium size (picture above). It definitely was underwhelming to its name... The fries tasted powdery for some reason.

Here are some random artsy footage from the event:

To be honest, the hightlight of the night was to tryout the XBOX 360 Kinect. We played 2 games, one where we had to use our hands to block the leakage of a tank, and the other one is a volleyball game. It was really fun!! :D The idea is similar to the Wii but you don't need to hold on to anything while playing for the Kinect. However, the down side of this is that the censor has a lag time.

Owned by the same company?

So after going to several different beauty sales this past year, I have been thinking...

You all know about that MAC warehouse sale that I went to last week, at the sale, I noticed that they also sold Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Origins, Tom Ford products. Which reminds me about the L'Oreal sale I went where I saw brands such as Maybeline, Lancome, Biotherm, Vichy, and so on. And so I did some quick research online, and found out that other than MAC and Clinique, Estee lauder actually also owns other brands such as La Mer, Michael Kors, Jo Malone, Smashbox, and other ones that I'm not as familiar with. L'Oreal owns Giorgio Armani, Kiehl's, Maybeline, The Body Shop,Vichy, Lancome, Shu Uemura (At this point, a big WHAT is floating in my head now), Viktor Rolf, YSL, etc.

At this point, I almost feel scammed if that's the right word to put it. A lot of beauty companies that I thought were rivals actually belong to the same head company. I know a lot of you are going to say that different companies have different target clients so it's okay for them to be owned by the same head company, it's like having different lines targeting towards young girls, independent working women, and so on. But I can't help but feel what I feel right now.

Any of you have a similar feeling? Or am I just being foolish? :S

MAC Sale Haul

Yesterday, I got a call from my mom asking if I'm interested in going to the MAC / Clinique / Estee Lauder sale today cause she got free tickets.. and my answer was.. HELLZ YEAH! I've heard of this sale from a few fellow bloggers before but I never got a hold of the tickets. So today, me and my bf drove up to Markham Fairgrounds at around 11, and lined up for about 45 minutes before we could get in. It was chaos inside. There were many people, great deals, and very inefficient lineups and cashing systems. Nonetheless, as I'm not a frequent MAC buyer, I took advantage of the sale and got myself a few goodies. The best thing is that each ticket gets a free gift :D Here is my haul:

E/S Quad (Photo Realism, Fresh Approach, Image Maker, and Grey Range) $15
Creme De Miel E/S $9
Love Lace E/S $9
Mineralize E/S in Family Silver (FREE GIFT! :D )
Fluidline in Shade $9

Brush Set $30
includes 190SE, 168SE, 187SE, 194SE

I've heard that the quality of the holiday gift brush sets are not as good as the regular priced items. I've examined the different sets. Most of them are a 5 piece set. This 4 piece set, however, has the best quality I find. Also, I was looking for a stippling brush for the longest time. Face brushes are one of my most favourite things so I couldn't help myself but to snag one of these :D

I bought 4 sets of lashes, 2 in #41 and 2 in #10 $3 each
Mini size of lipglass in Delicate Crush $3

I absolutely love the lipglass. The colour is beautiful. Although I never saw the Viva Glam Gaga Lipglass in person, from what I've seen in swatches online, this lipglass reminds me of that. I regret not buying more since it's sooo mini :S

Romantique / Chill Blue $3 each

My mom and her friend went yesterday (one day before I went) My mom found these e/s for $3 each. I'm soooo jealous. When I went to the 3 dollar section today, they only had some lashes, the mini lipglasses, some cotton pads, and that's it. To be honest, I was kind of disappointed knowing that there were some awesome cheap e/s there before. My friend even got some Clinique Moisture Surge cream there for $3 on Friday :(

Other things that I bought:
MAC Select Cover-Up in NW20 $7
Clinique Derma White Brightening Moisture Gel Crean $15
Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil $20 for 2
Tom Ford Black Orchid Body Moisturizer $20

All about Food :D:D:D

I've been eating wayyy too much lately. And I've accumulated some food pics, so I decided to make a post to share with all of you food lovers :D

- Soju Watermelon

Since you guys had some questions on what soju watermlon is on my last post, I decided to explain it a little. I actually learned it from a friend. What you do is, you cut a hole in the watermelon, big enough to stuff the soju bottle in. Then put it in the fridge over night. If successful, the content of the soju in the bottle would decrease the next day. Then, cut it up and eat it :D

I had to cut off my friend's head in this picture since I don't know if he minds his face being on the internet. The taste of the soju in the watermelon isn't that intense. Well, the taste of the soju alone isn't strong anyway. I believe you can also do this with vodka or any other alcohol that you prefer. I suggest something not with a strong taste though.

- Beard Papa's

Beard Papa's is a Japanese company that sells cream puffs. I recently found out that they opened a store on the 2nd floor of Pacific Mall in Markham so I had to go try out some :P You can choose the whipped cream flavour such as vanilla, strawberry, green tea, etc. I chose to try out green tea. The cream puff is pretty big, probably the size of your palm. Each one costs around $2. I kind of hoped that the cream would be colder though, but definitely worth a try!

- Chinese food

I went to 强记鸡粥 in Scarborough and fell in love. Who can say no to congee, clams, and vege! I was extremely happy and full that night hehehe

- CNE food (Deep Fried Butter)

Yesterday, I went to CNE in Toronto and came across this food stall selling weird snacks that I've never heard of - Twinkie Log, Deep Fried Butter, Bacon covered in chocolate, Deep Fried Mars Bar?!?? The lineup was hella long. I was a bit hesitant at first, but decided to give it a try. I bought the deep fried butter for $5. It's an interesting feeling, it tasted like bread almost. I didn't fall in love with it though, probably because I'm not a big fan of fried food.

- Smoke's Poutinerie

This is my favourite food of all!! I absolutely adore poutine. For those of you who don't know, poutine is french fries topped with cheese curd, gravy, and sometimes additional ingredients. It was originated in Quebec. After CNE yesterday, me and my bf travelled to Adelaide to find the store because we didn't realize they also sold it in the food building in CNE :( Oh well! You can check out their menu and their locations here: http://smokespoutinerie.com/

Chili Poutine (top) and Prime Beef Poutine (bottom)

I prefer the Chili poutine more just because the taste of the chili and the fries mixed together sooo well. I recommend this to everyone!

Hope all of you had a great weekend. Much love.

Cottage Trip again WHAT!

I feel like I say this way too much. I don't post enough :S But lately, I've just been busy with life in general... starting a new job, just came back from vacation, started studying again for an exam coming up in nov, blah blah blah, the excuses go on and on. I wanna let you guys know that I went to a cottage trip again last weekend and it was so much fun! I love just chilling and doing nothing at all. We had way too much food, and of course, our soju watermelon :P hehe

I promise I will be back with more Europe posts! Hope everyone is having an awesome summer.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

My posts are not going to be in order. I'll just post places according to what I wanna write about. As I cannot wait to show you what I got in Monte Carlo, I decided to blog about it first. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Monaco is a country located within France. I just love the whole vibe there, sooo relaxing :)

We stopped at this big store called Fragonard that sells perfumes, soaps, and other fragranced products. Here are some of the things that we bought there. Some stuff are still in the suitcase so I'll show them later.

Eau du Bonheur / Lavande / Belle de Nuit

Aren't these the cutest things? Each of them is 3g of cream perfume. They are just the right size to put in your purse if you wanna touch up on smelling a bit nicer when you're on the go. The lavender one is my mom's. I'm regretting on not buying more of these :S even though they're not the cheapest things - costing 5 euros each.

2 things from the VRAI line - argan oil and anti-wrinkle cream. I only used them for a couple of times, and already loving them :) The bottom two green soaps are my dad's.

The things on the right are some souvenirs I picked up. A small bag, a shot glass, and a fragrance roller ball that I regret buying. I bought it cause I wanted to try the roller thing but I had minimal time to pick out a fragrance and I wasn't allowed to smell it at that souvenir store. It turned out to be mega sweet :(

I also bought something from Ferragamo :P It was a very unexpected purchase. Anyone wanna take a guess?

Update: I am back! :D

Hi everyone! I'm back from my trip to Europe. My family and I joined a 15 days tour to go to a bunch of different countries such as Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands, and England. It was very hectic. Everything went rather smoothly except when we took the plane from Netherlands to England, we lost 1 luggage :( Don't worry, the airline mailed it home just yesterday. Also, our plane from England to Toronto was delayed 10 hours. We were stuck in the Heathrow Airport for sooo long. The airline refused to give us a hotel room. The compensation was close to useless :S but Europe was beautiful though! The only thing to complain is the lack of shopping time! Oh well, there's always next time. I started work yesterday and because of the plane delay, I got home at 5:30 in the morning, and had to go to my first day of work at 9. I am still rather tired right now so I have to postpone blogging to a later time. I will post more pictures and let you guys know about the things that I bought soon :D

Much Love.
